Here is some information on helping you improve your HCAHPS score and increase your hospital’s reimbursement from Uncle Sam.
As you may or may not know, the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems survey, or HCAHPS for short, are given to patients to rate and assess their level of healthcare service they receive at any hospital. These surveys are made public, and deal with areas important to patients that focus on the quality of service and treatment a patient receives from the hospital and its staff.
The survey results affect how much money the hospital will receive from Medicare. How patients answer 17 questions posed in Medicare’s HCAHPS survey determines 30% of each hospital’s score (“15 HCAHPS Buzzwords Every Provider Should Know” Cheryl Clark, Health Leaders Media, July 11, 2011)
Some direct areas where Isolation Precaution can impact these scores are factored in with responsiveness of hospital staff, pain management, communication about medicines, cleanliness and quietness of the hospital environment, etc. The effective way ISOSIGNs communicate, directly impacts all of these factors, and inherently can help increase scores if utilized effectively. Some of the ways ISOSIGNs can help improve HCAHPS scores include:
1) Saving clinicians time by effectively addressing patients’ needs in a timely manner.
2) Effectively manage risk by efficiently communicating the conditions of the patients and the room.

Have Remaining Money in Your Budget for 2012?
Go ahead and schedule a call with us to determine how we can make it possible for you to make room for isolation signage in your budget for this year or next. You may even want to consider installing the ISOSIGN system in a problematic unit or small pod on a trial basis. This is the easiest way to prove that the system works, so let the results help justify a budget request. The ISOSIGN has proven itself in every hospital using it.
